Message from Florida Commisioner of Education |
|
Florida’s implementation of the state’s class size amendment remains an important topic for parents and communities throughout the state. Recently, the Florida Legislature passed a proposed amendment to Florida’s existing class size regulations allowing for flexibility in the implementation of class size at the local level. Whether or not the state is to adopt this proposed language must now be decided by Florida’s voters in the upcoming fall elections.
As the state agency responsible for monitoring the implementation of class size in Florida, the Department of Education is committed to assisting every Floridian understand the history of class size and its impact in our state. For this reason, the Department has created a Class Size Resource web page which can be found at http://www.fldoe.org/ClassSize.
Through the web page, visitors can find historical information on class size implementation, answers to frequently asked questions about class size and details on how districts throughout the state have worked to implement class size in their schools.
I encourage you to utilize this Class Size Resource web page and share it in your communities. Armed with the best information available voters can make an educated decision about the future of class size in Florida.
Thank you,
Dr. Eric J. Smith
